How Can You Detect Stomach Ulcers?

Did you know that you have a one in ten opening of developing an ulcer at some time in your life? These small perforations of the gastrointestinal tract can cause a world of hurt and complications that may jeopardize your health.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

Stomach ulcers, sometimes called a peptic ulcer, are small holes in the gastrointestinal tract's lining. Sure, you may get lucky and establish a duodenal ulcer that is benign, but what if the stomach ulcer is malignant? How do you even know if you have this disease or if it is indigestion?

Sensitive Stomachs

So what causes these gastric ulcers and what is the ulcer medicine you can expect? Well, let's just tackle one request at a time. Here is what happens to cause this particular disease. The sensitive lining of the gastrointestinal tract (including the stomach) is in touch with the acid from the stomach.

The acid wears a hole in the lining and an ulcer appears. Most of the time, these ones are caused by a tiny bacterium and are categorically an H pylori ulcer. The Helicobacter pylori are a unicellular bacterium that can live in the acidic environment of the stomach.

It is what weakens and erodes the mucous lining. Once the mucous is gone, the acid and bacteria can start work on the lining which then leads to an ulcer.

There are some symptoms you can look for if you think you have stomach ulcers. These symptoms, such as a pain in the tummy that comes after eating a meal, or in the middle of the night when your tummy is empty, or a feeling of upset stomach or nausea (which could indicate an H pylori ulcer) may be present.

The only way to be sure if you have a stomach ulcer is to go to your doctor and discuss the symptoms. Testing will indicate either or not such a disease is present.

There are two separate ways that a doctor can diagnose a stomach ulcer. The first is straight through drinking a chalky liquid and taking an x-ray. The second is straight through an endoscope. The small endoscope camera is inserted into the gastrointestinal tract and the doctor looks for any ulcers that are present.

A biopsy will likely be preformed and the tissue will be tested for the H. Pylori bacteria, which is most often the culprit behind such diseases. Regardless if it is or is not, the doctor will designate medication to heal the disease.

All Natural Dog Food to Help Prevent Reflux Gastritis Problems

Believe it or not, dogs can have this nasty problem, too. When a dog gets stomach reflux, vomiting is the most common symptom. You will want to take your dog to the vet, if he keeps vomiting. Vomiting is not only a sign of stomach reflux, but it can be a sign to many other stomach issues, as well. Dogs that suffer from stomach reflux are usually healthy otherwise.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

It is very important to determine the source of vomiting if it continues. It could be associated with other disorders that need different treatments. For stomach reflux problems, chronic vomiting happens when the stomach is constantly inflamed and irritated.

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

Generally a dog will vomit yellowish, bile-stained fluid or foam early in the morning. The stomach is usually empty. This stomach disorder happens when the stomach lining is injured because of chronic reflux or back flush of things, such as bile and pancreatic enzymes.

Other symptoms include:
Appetite loss
Weight loss
Abdominal pain

A veterinarian will have to run tests to be sure your dog has reflux gastritis. A biopsy of the lining of the stomach will need to be performed. Sometimes a veterinarian will try symptomatic treatment first to see if the problem can be fixed without having to do surgical or endoscopic techniques.

Treating reflux gastritis is not difficult. Simply changing your dog's food to an all natural dog food that contains vitamins and minerals needed for health is a great first step. Flint River Ranch or Life's Abundance are good healthy dog foods to consider. They are packed full of all natural ingredients and vitamins and minerals.

If you are not already feeding your dog a healthy dog food, you will need to slowly introduce it to your dog. If you do not introduce it slowly, you take the chance of making your dog's stomach feel sicker. The next very important thing you can do is to feed your dog smaller meals throughout the day.

If you are a human that suffers from acid reflux, you have probably been told that you should not eat late at night. This is true for humans, but for a dog, it is actually helpful to your dog to feed him a small amount of food right before bed. This is because the food acts as a buffer and neutralizes the duodenal contents, such as bile and pancreatic enzymes.

25 Foods You Should NOT Feed Your Dog

Recently, much news was published about unsafe commercial pet foods. This news, of course, sounded an alarm among pet owners. But, unfortunately, this problem isn’t really ‘news’. It seems that incidents similar to this occur from time to time. Perhaps this is one reason more and more people are opting to ‘home cook’ for their pets. However, in order to properly home-cook for your pets, you should first have a basic knowledge of canine nutrition; and, even more importantly, a thorough knowledge of human foods that are harmful to dogs. Some foods which are safe for human consumption can be poisonous for our canine companions. E-dog-training.com has put together a list of 25 common human foods that are toxic to dogs. Of course, when in doubt, always check with your vet. Here is a list to get you started:

dog food for sensitive stomachs

1. Onions (Both onions and garlic contain the toxic ingredient Thiosulphate. But onions are more of a danger. Many dog biscuits contain *small* amounts of garlic – garlic contains less of this toxin so huge amounts would need to be consumed to be toxic. And, by the way, this poison builds up the system – it can be toxic in one large dose – or with repeated consumption of small amounts.)

2. Chocolate (Chocolate contains Theobromine, a compound that is a cardiac stimulant and a diuretic. This can be fatal to dogs.)

3. Grapes (Grapes are dangerous because of an unknown substance which is toxic to dogs – affects canine’s kidneys)

4. Raisins (See above.)

5. Most Fruit Pits and Seeds (Contain Cyanogenic Glycosides resulting in cyanide poisoning – though the fruit itself is OK.)

6. Macadamia Nuts (Macadamia nuts contain an unknown substance that is toxic to dogs.)

7. Most Bones should *not* be given (especially chicken bones) because they can splinter and cause laceration of the digestive system and/or become lodged in your pet’s throat – so they also pose a choking hazard.

8. Potato Peelings and Green Potatoes (Contain Oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

9. Rhubarb leaves (see above)

10. Broccoli (Broccoli is only toxic in large quantities.)

11. Green parts of Tomatoes or Green Potatoes(Contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous, and urinary systems.)

12. Yeast Dough (Yeast Dough can produce gas and swell in your pet’s stomach – leading to rupture of the digestive system)

13. Coffee/Coffee Grounds and Tea ( are dangerous due to the caffeine.)

14. Beer/Wine/Alcohol of any kind (Alcohol of any kind could lead to coma or even death.)

15. Human Vitamins (Human vitamins, especially those containing iron, can cause damage to the lining of the digestive system as well as cause kidney and liver damage)

16. Moldy or Spoiled Food (though I think this goes without saying.)

17. Persimmons (Persimmons can cause intestinal blockage)

18. Raw Eggs and Raw Fish (Raw eggs and some raw fish can cause Salmonella poisoning.)

19. Salt, Baking Soda, Baking Powder (In large amounts these can cause an electrolyte imbalance – and severe electrolyte imbalances can lead to muscle spasm or even congestive heart failure.)

20. Mushrooms (Mushrooms may contain toxins which could cause liver and kidney damage)

21. Sugar-Free Foods (Sugar-free foods containing Xylitol have been found to cause liver failure in some dogs.)

22. Nutmeg (Nutmeg can cause tremors, seizures, and central nervous system damage.)

23. Excessive Fatty Foods (Excess fatty foods can cause Pancreatitis.)

24. Avocado (All parts of the avocado and avocado tree are toxic to dogs.)

25. Diary Products (Dairy products don’t usually pose a great danger; but many dairy product have high fat content (see number 23) – and many pets are lactose intolerant – some pets more than others. Lactose intolerance leads to gas and diarrhea; though small amounts of yogurt and cheese are usually fairly well tolerated.)

Keep these 25 toxic foods in mind when cooking for your dog. There may be other foods that your dog can not consume; so always ask your vet when you are unsure about anything concerning your pet. Dogs Eating Grass - Behavior & Physical Components

Similar to the chicken and egg debate, dog trainers and other professionals often disagree about why dogs eat grass. The discussion usually goes like this, "Do dogs eat grass because they need to throw up or do they throw up because they eat grass?" The one thing that everyone agrees on is that if your dog is eating grass, he is most likely going to throw up!

dog food for sensitive stomachs

There are several theories as to why dogs eat grass:

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

Dietary Supplement
The dog's diet is lacking in nutrients found in leafy greens, creating an urge to eat grass.

Healing Instinct
If a dog has an upset stomach, he may instinctively eat grass to induce vomiting. This evacuates the stomach of bothersome irritants and makes the dog feel better. Many dogs diagnosed with a sensitive stomach, regularly turn to grass in order to throw up. This is due to bile build up in an empty stomach and the dog instinctively needs to relieve it.

They like the taste
Some dogs move from sniffing grass to eating it as a learned behavior. This typically presents when the dogs smells the remains of something particularly attractive and is enticed to eat the grass which lies underneath. If this happens often enough, the dog may acquire a taste for grass.

Is it normal dog behavior?
Eating grass is a normal behavior for canines and it is typically safe. Dogs may be more attracted to long, decorative grasses or tall weeds, particularly if they are blowing in the breeze.

Is eating grass harmful for my dog?
Eating grass is not harmful providing it isn't a regular habit and the grass is free from pesticides. Most commercial pesticides are considered animal safe once the product has fully dried. If grass has been recently treated, contact the chemical company to ensure its safety and when in doubt, don't let your dog eat grass in that area.

Mushrooms are also a cause for concern. If you have a grass eater, check your yard frequently to ensure it is free from mushrooms that may be toxic to your pet.

Routinely eating grass

If your dog is eating grass and vomiting on a regular basis, you should seek the advice of your veterinarian to rule out a stomach ailment. Additional considerations include:

Eliminate the empty stomach/bile feeling by increasing the fiber in your dogs diet. Raw carrots and pumpkin pie filling are healthy choices but be mindful of the sugar intake if you're feeding these items daily. Your veterinarian may prescribe over the counter fiber supplements or a prescription, high fiber food depending on your pet's diagnosis.

Help keep your pet's stomach full by feeding smaller meals more often throughout the day. Providing a cookie or small treat before bed can also help them through the night.

Stress can also trigger this behavior. Separation anxiety, fear, excessive barking or crying can all create an upset stomach, which typically starts the process of grass eating. If your pet is exhibiting any of these symptoms, your veterinarian or dog trainer can help you identify the root cause and create a plan to make your pet more comfortable.

The goal of all dog training is to provide peaceable solutions to everyday problems so that pets and their owners live harmoniously. Paws in Training provides dog obedience training, puppy training, dog behavior evaluations, consultation and dog education services in Raleigh, Durham and Cary, N.C.

How To Treat Dog Vomiting

A very common problem that virtually all of us see as dog owners is dog vomiting.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

There are potentially many different causes of dog vomiting. The most common cause is garbage gut, where your dog consumes something he shouldn't have, resulting in vomiting. Other causes include food allergies, parasites, medications, infectious causes (i.e. parvovirus), cancer, liver or kidney disease, pancreatitis, metabolic disorders (thyroid disease or diabetes), physical obstructions such as a ball or a bone, and primary motility disorders (the stomach doesn't contract normally).

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

Any vomiting dog must be evaluated for dehydration. If your dog is vomiting persistently and unable to retain even water, wait no longer than 24 hours before going to your veterinarian. This indicates a severe problem, such as an obstruction, that needs to be treated with IV fluids and possibly surgery. If your dog is still consuming water and occasionally vomiting, then you can try some of the home remedies.

Fasting. A 24 hour fast is the most important thing you can do to allow your pet's inflamed stomach to heal. Allow access to controlled amounts of water, but no food. After 24 hours offer bland food such as plain cooked white rice; give equivalent amounts of rice as you do dog or cat food. After 48 hours mix their regular food with rice and don't fully go to regular food until after 72 hours.

For Food Allergens. For dogs and cats with chronic vomiting, I strongly recommend a diet change. Preferably switch to a hypoallergenic food or homemade allergy diet. At the very least, change to a premium quality food - I find that some pets respond to a more natural diet. In light of the recent Pet Food Recall, paying close your dog's diet is even more important than ever.

Homeopathic. Nux Vomica is an effective homeopathic remedy for dog vomiting. Give 1 tablet of the 30C strength per 40lbs once daily for 3-5 days.

Herbal - Ginger. A tasty addition for a curry is also effective for vomiting. The dried herb dose is 25mg per lb or 1 drop per lb twice daily of the tincture.

Acupressure Point. The ST36 point, located on the outside of the hind leg below the knee may be effective; press it for 1 minute twice daily for 3-5 days to see if it helps.

Flowers to the Rescue: Bach Rescue Remedy can make your pet feel a little better about their illness. Give your pet 3-4 drops by mouth every 6 hours.

Herbal - Chamomile. This is commonly used in people with mild stomach upset and it may help your pet. Give 30mg per lb of the dried herb, or 2 drops per lb of the tincture three times daily.

The treatments I covered may be all that you need for now. But I guarantee that you will use many of the thousands of at home remedies in my book.

I use them every day in practice. They work. No side effects.

You should try it.

To your pet's good health,

Hypoallergenic Dog Food to Keep Your Dog Healthy

If your dog is suffering from food allergies, you should consider switching from your normal brand to a hypoallergenic dog food. These types of foods are less likely to cause intestinal distress or skin allergies, which will allow your pet to live a happier and healthier life.

Symptoms of dog food allergies include digestive issues, such as diarrhea and vomiting, and skin irritations. Your dog could be allergic to one or more ingredients, such as beef, dairy products, chicken, corn, eggs, soy, wheat, and yeast. Unlike hypoallergenic dog food manufacturers, most common pet food companies make their foods with chemicals, preservatives, dyes, and flavorings.

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

Unfortunately, to find the hypoallergenic dog food that works best for your pet, you will probably have to go through a trial-and-error process to find out which ingredient your dog is allergic to. You will have to start by eliminating items one by one to see which ingredient is triggering an allergic reaction.

Beef, soy, and corn are common causes of allergies, so it is best to start eliminating these ingredients from your pet's diet first. If the symptoms do not go away, you should try foods without the other common ingredients that pets are allergic to, such as soy and artificial flavorings and preservatives.

In order to make sure that your food experiment works, you should keep a diary to track how the changes are affecting your dog and make sure your pet is not eating table scraps or other food items. It may be that your dog might be allergic to more than one thing, so you may have to experiment by adding or removing more than one ingredient.

Once you have determined what your dog is allergic to, you will have a wide variety of hypoallergenic dog foods to choose from. Hypoallergenic pet food is usually made with better quality ingredients and does not have the fillers used in regular pet foods. Many of these companies use lamb, bison, or venison and rice or oats instead of corn, which are deemed gentler on your dog's stomach.

You can purchase your new hypoallergenic dog food from your vet or pet specialty shops, but if you want the largest variety to select from then look online. The other advantage to shopping online is that you get to examine the ingredients and compare between many other brands. And most online pet food companies provide free shipping when buying these types of foods.

If you do not like the hypoallergenic dog food choices available, you can choose to make your own. There is a variety of recipes available on the internet or in specialty pet books. Making your own hypoallergenic pet food allows you more quality control with the ingredients used. Whether you choose to make your own hypoallergenic dog food or buy it from the store, these types of foods can help your pet live a normal, healthy, allergy-free life.

Putting Your Dog On A Diabetic Dog Food Diet

Like humans, dogs too get diabetes. When a dog has diabetes, the best way to keep it in control is by giving it diabetic dog food, which is low in sugar and carbohydrates. Apart from controlling the amount of sugar in a diabetic dog's food, the amount of food and the frequency in which they are fed also needs to be monitored. The general recommendation is that your diabetic dog should be fed smaller meals twice or thrice a day instead of a single large meal. This is because blood sugar levels can be stabilized by smaller meals, whereas a single large meal results in a high insulin spike, and then for it to drop down in 12 hours. When blood sugar plummets too low, it results in hypoglycemia, which is a series condition.

dog food for dogs with allergies

So what diabetic dog food should you give your dog? Here are a few recommendations that will assist in controlling the diabetic condition of your dog:

Dog Food

Shun Foods That Have Sugar

Most dog owners have very little idea about the amounts of carbohydrates and sugar contained in commercial dog food. Carbohydrates are considered a form of sugar because they are metabolized into glucose by the body. Both soft-moist dog food and dry dog food are considered culprits. If you must feed your dog commercially manufactured dog food, it is better to give them a good quality canned food. It is important to check the ingredients, which are printed on the label.

Homemade Diabetic Dog Food

The best solution is to feed your dog homemade dog foods and raw foods. By doing this, you will be able to keep track of exactly how much carbohydrates and sugar they are getting. Putting your dog on a homemade diabetic dog food diet need not be expensive or hard work. There are plenty of websites on the Internet that have lots of advice and recipes that are nutritious and tasty.

Cut Down On The Fat

Apart from regulating blood sugar and insulin levels in the body, the pancreas also produces enzymes that break down fats. Since it is essential not to put too much stress on the pancreas of a diabetic dog, it is important to choose low-fat meats. Ground beef should not be given, and the extra fat in turkey and chicken should be removed. While some fat is required for good health, according to nutritionists, it is best to minimize the amount as much as possible.

Some Grains Are Good

While you do have to be careful about the quantity of grain you feed your dog, since animals cannot digest grains as easily as humans because their digestive track is shorter, certain grains are beneficial for diabetic dogs. Millet, oats and brown rice provide fiber and also help to control the levels of insulin. Some nutritionists also advise cornmeal, but sometimes dogs have allergic reactions to wheat and corn. But it is best to use grains sparingly, because being carbohydrates they are turned into glucose by the body.

Adding fresh vegetables and raw fruits, which are high in nutrients and vitamins, and have natural sugars (which do not have the detrimental effects on insulin levels that processed sugar does), brewer's yeast which contains a substance known as 'glucose tolerance factor' which helps the body to use blood sugar more efficaciously, and Vitamin E which aids in reducing the requirement for insulin, are some of the other recommendations.

Before making any changes to your dog's diet, it is important to consult a vet about the diabetic dog food diet your pet needs, and give those foods that your dog tolerates well. But, as a thumb rule, avoid giving baked foods that contain sugar and flour.

Dhauti - Cleaning the Stomach

This is a shuddhikriya meant for cleaning the stomach. There are three varieties, namely, vamana-dhauti. Danda-dhauti, and vastra-dhauti. Vamana-dhauti may be said to be the easiest. Vamana means vomiting Its policy is to drink about six glasses of water and then to vomit the water out by putting the index and middle fingers in the mouth upto the uvula. This helps to cleans the stomach, bringing out with the water impurities from the stomach. In danda-dhauti, after drinking water as above, a rubber tube, about three feet in distance and slightly larger than a lead pencil in diameter is inserted in the mouth and is gulped down slowly so that one end of it reaches upto the stomach while the other end is held surface the mouth. Then by bending the trunk transmit the water from the stomach is drawn out by siphon action. When all the water comes out, the tube is pulled out slowly. Before inserting the tube into the mouth it must be cleaned and disinfected by dipping. It in boiling water for a few minutes. Many citizen find it difficult to gulp the tube down the throat without vomiting, because the throat is sensitive to touch stimuli. Such persons have to do vamana-dhauti in place of danda-dhauti. The latter has one benefit over the previous as there is no spasm of the stomach wall and water comes out smoothly.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

Vastra-dhauti is more difficult but far more useful as compared to the above mentioned varieties. In it a strip of fine muslin cloth about three inches wide and twenty two feet in distance is used. This strip is washed, disinfected (by dipping it in boiling water for a few minutes), and made into a roll. One end of it is held between two fingers and inserted into the mouth. It is then gulped down slowly. When only six inches of its distance remains surface the mouth, the gulping is stopped, never allowing this other end of the strip to go into the mouth. The abdomen is then churned by Nauli with the strip of cloth inside the stomach, and the strip is then taken out by pulling the other end slowly. By rubbing itself against the inner lining of the stomach, dhauti cleanses it, and removes all the impurities from the stomach.

Sensitive Stomachs

Dhauti has a great therapeutic value. It is employedin the yogic treatment of disorders like acidity and asthma.

Canine Bloat

What is Canine Bloat?

dog food for sensitive stomachs

Bloat refers to the bloating of the stomach. Essentially it is a build up of gas in the stomach which is unable to be released. Bloat with Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV) occurs when the stomach fills with gas and twists 180 to 360 degrees on it's axis between the esophagus and duodenum or the entrance and exit parts of the stomach. Bloat is a very serious problem in large breed dogs. When combined with the complications of GDV, bloat is a leading cause of death of dogs, second only to cancer.

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

The exact cause of bloat is still unknown. Generally, it is believed that excessive eating and drinking of water followed by exercise can cause bloat. It is thought that exercise causes food or fluid in the stomach to cause a build up of gas. The severity of the conditions is more serious when the stomach twists upon itself within the abdomen in a clockwise rotation causing the inlet and outlet of the stomach as well as blood vessels which supply the stomach to become constricted at both ends. As a result, the constriction will cause the stomach tissue to die. In a very short time, the stomach becomes restricted of nutrients and oxygen. If not treated, the dog can die.

What Are the Symptoms of Canine Bloat?

- Anxious, restless

- Distended abdomen

- Attempting to vomit

- Excessive drooling

- Whining

- Pale gums

- Increase in heart rate.

- Difficult breathing

What Causes Bloat?

The stomach becomes filled with gas and because of several possible factors; the dog is unable to relieve the pressure. Bloat, with GDV, is when the stomach goes in to a Atwist.@ This closes both the esophagus and pylorus, preventing the dog from relieving the gas pressure which can quickly build up after a large meal. This condition is extremely fatal, causing shock, coma and eventually death. Like many other conditions which affect our dogs, the actual cause of bloat is still unknown. Several factor seem to contribute to a dogs chances of getting bloat

- Stress

- Eating or drinking too fast.

- Exercise before and immediately after eating

- Having a large deep chest

- Elevated food bowls

- Hereditary

- Disposition

Are All Dogs At Risk Canine Bloat?

Canine bloat and GDV usually only effects large breed dogs, but smaller dogs are still susceptible.. It is thought that some lines of breeds are genetically at a higher risk. Though bloat can occur in puppies, it is a condition which usually occurs in adult dogs. Furthermore, male dogs are more likely to suffer from bloat than female dogs. Here is a list of some breeds that have a higher chance of being effected by bloat and GDV.

- German Shepherd

- Great Dane

- Standard Poodle

- Rottweiler

- Akita

- Bloodhound

- Great Pyrenees

- Irish Setter

- Old English Sheepdog

- Boxer

- Golden Retriever

- Irish Wolfhound

- St. Bernards

- Labrador Retriever

- Newfoundland

- Doberman

What Is the Treatment of Dog Bloat?

Canine bloat is a very serious problem. If you suspect your dog of having bloat, contact your vet immediately. Every second counts! If caught and diagnosed quick enough, initial treatment will involve inserting a tube or tochar in to the stomach wall to remove the gas. If necessary, the vet will then operate, attempting to untwist the stomach. Secondary treatment will involve treating shock, dehydration, fatigue, and other complications resulting from the distension of the stomach.

Is There Any Way To Prevent Dog Bloat?

Prevention of bloat can be difficult. Because there are so many possible causes for this condition, prevention must be examined on an individual basis. If you have a dog that is at risk there are a couple of things that you can do to decrease the chances of this fatal condition. Since bloat is believed to be connected with genetics and hereditary, these preventive measures can only decrease the chances of bloat.

- Do not overfeed. Feed 2-3 small meals a day.

- Do not use elevated food bowls

- Do not allow your dog to drink large amounts of water after eating.

- Add an enzyme product to your dogs food

Grapes, Nuts, and Your Dogs Health - Foods that Fido should Avoid

"Magoo was a big, playful Labrador retriever who often got himself into sticky situations..."

dog food

So begins a story in the latest report from the ASPCA on foods that may be toxic to dogs. It turns out that Magoo got into the pantry and snagged himself about a pound of raisins. He ate the whole thing, of course.

Dog Food

The ASPCA never mentions Magoo's fate. But they do tell us that as little as a handful of raisins can impair a dogs health and has been fatal for some. Ditto for the grape.

Who Knew?

Growing up, I regarded our family dogs as "the first cycle of the dishwasher". They were good about waiting their turn for whatever we left on our plates, and we weren't too concerned about offering them "people food". It never crossed our minds that our dogs health could be affected by a few measly table scraps. What was safe for us, we figured, was safe for our pets.

What's more, whenever I ate grapes, I liked to give one or two to our German Shepherd "Tiffany". The grapes always popped out of her mouth when she tried to bite into them and Tiffany, ever the good sport, refused to give up until she'd squashed each one into submission. It guaranteed at least 60 seconds of harmless fun.

Tiffany was also fond of chewing gum (she chewed it -- wrapper and all -- but didn't swallow it!) We had the sugarless kind, which is often sweetened these days with xylitol.

Little did I know that I might have been poisoning our family pet! (More on xylitol below).

Why are grapes harmful?

As far as grapes and raisins go, no one is sure why they're harmful. It's been confirmed that even grapes grown without fertilizers or pesticides can be toxic to dogs. But not to every dog, and not every time. It's also not known whether small amounts eaten over a long time period could have a cumulative effect.

What we do know is that the end result in nearly all reported cases of grape or raisin toxicity is acute kidney failure. (The term "acute" means that the condition is severe and comes on quickly.) The dog ultimately can't produce urine, which means they can't filter toxins out of their systems -- a process essential to life.

During the twelve-month period in which the effects of grapes were studied, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center handled 140 cases involving one or more dogs. Over a third of the dogs developed symptoms ranging from vomiting to kidney failure, and seven dogs died. The ASPCA based their study on reported cases, so naturally there may be cases where a dogs health is entirely unaffected by eating grapes. But until they know all the facts, the Society advises against feeding pets grapes or raisins in any amount.

An ounce of prevention

So, your dog just scored himself a big box of raisins. What's a pet owner to do?

The first line of defense, if the grapes or raisins were eaten recently, is to induce vomiting and administer activated charcoal (it absorbs toxins in the GI tract). Vomiting is also the first sign that your dog is in trouble, so skip right to the activated charcoal if vomiting has already occurred. (In a pinch you can make your own activated charcoal by charring a piece of toast until it's blackened and crumbles easily.) Then call your vet right away.

Can't reach the vet? Call ASPCA Poison Control: 888-426-4435

The vet will keep your dog on intravenous fluids for at least 48 hours and monitor blood chemistry daily. Normal blood work after 3 days usually means your dog is in the clear.

Keeping a watchful eye out, of course, is the best way to keep your pet out of trouble. Like children, dogs (and other pets) have a knack for getting into mischief when we're not looking.

It's Not Just the Grapes...

There are other foods your dog should be kept away from, and some of them may surprise you.

Here are some other foods that can put a dogs health in harms way:

Chocolate

Who can resist chocolate? Like it your not, your dog.

Chocolate is made with cocoa beans and cocoa beans contain a chemical called Theobromine, which is toxic to dogs. Different types of chocolate have varying effects on dogs health. Dark chocolate has the largest theobromine, coming in at a whopping 450mg (compared to 1mg for white chocolate). So on Valentine's Day, you're actually being kind to your best buddy if you eat all the chocolates yourself!

Cocoa Mulch

Cocoa bean shells are a by-product of chocolate production (which is how mulch made it into the "foods" category) and are popular as mulch for landscaping. Homeowners like the attractive color and scent, and the fact that the mulch breaks down into an organic fertilizer. However, some dogs like to eat it and it contains Theobromine.

Fatty foods

Fatty foods are hard for a dog to digest and can can overtax the pancreas, leading to pancreatitis. This can threaten your dogs health and is potentially fatal.

Nuts

Macadamia nuts should be avoided. In fact most nuts are not good for a dogs health since their high phosporus content is said to lead to bladder stones.

Mulch

Mulch isn't food, but there's one type tempting enough for dogs to eat. Some dogs are attracted to cocoa mulch, and will eat it in varying quantities. The coca bean shells can contain from 0.2% to 3% theobromine (the toxin ) as compaired to 1-4% in unprocessed beans.

Onions

Onions, especially raw onions, have been shown to trigger hemolytic anemia in dogs. (Stephen J Ettinger, D.V.M and Edward C. Fieldman, D.V.M. 's book: Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine vol. 2 pg 1884.) Stay away from onion powder too.

Potatoes

Potato poisonings among people and dogs are rare but have occurred. The toxin, solanine, is poorly absorbed and is only found in green sprouts (these occur in tubers exposed to sunlight) and green potato skins. This explains why incidents seldom occur. Note that cooked, mashed potatoes are fine for a dogs health, actually quite nutritious and digestible.

Artificial Sweeteners

Xylitol is used as a sweetener in many products, especially sugarless gum and candies. Ingesting large amounts of products sweetened with xylitol may cause a sudden drop in blood sugar in dogs, resulting depression, loss of coordination, and seizures. According to Dr. Eric K. Dunayer, a consulting veterinarian in clinical toxicology for the poison control center, "These signs can develop quite rapidly, at times less than 30 minutes after ingestion of the product" states Dr. Dunayer, "...therefore, it is important that pet owners seek veterinary treatment immediately."

Turkey

Turkey skin is currently thought to cause acute pancreatis in dogs, partly due to it's high fat content.

Other foods listed by the ASPCA as harmful:

Alcoholic beverages

Avocado (the only "fatty" member of the vegetable family)

Coffee (all forms of coffee)

Moldy or spoiled foods

Salt

Yeast dough

Garlic

The Bottom Line

Thanks to a more educated public, fewer fatalities from foods like chocolate are being reported these days. But it's important to keep up with what's currently known about foods and their effects on dogs health. Grapes and cocoa mulch, for example, were only discovered very recently to have harmful effects.
Check frequently with sources like the ASPCA, or sign up for the "Cold Noses News" and we'll keep you informed. (You'll also get a bunch of cool dog stuff along with your free registration).

Of course, being alert and getting your pet to the vet promptly will help assure a happy outcome if something unfortunate should happen.
Here's to your dogs health and good nutrition!

Dog Vomiting - Yuck! My Dog Just Threw Up

Just about everyone who has, or has had, a dog, has either thought or said that or something close to it. Over the years every dog I've had has thrown up at one time or another. For some it was a weekly thing and others hardlly ever. We had one dog, Shelly, who threw up only once, that we know of, in all the years we had her. Right on the new couch.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

A dog vomiting is a pretty common occurrence. Most of the time it's caused by eating something they shouldn't have. As they walk around the yard, or even while you're out walking them their nose is to the ground and anything that looks interesting like a leaf, a pebble, paper or plastic wrappers, sticks, I could go on and on, they have to check it out and put it in their mouth. It can also be caused by overfeeding, which can also cause diarrhea. It is amazing the things dogs will eat.

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

Why Is My Dog Vomiting?

Diet Change - changes in their diet like new dog food

Eating Too Rapidly - What dog hasn't

Food Allergy - Food allergies in dogs usually show as itchy skin. If the GI tract is affected it is much more likely to cause diarrhea.

Obstructing objects - Anything that blocks the exit from the stomach to the intestines will eventually cause vomiting. Sticks, stones, too big a piece from their bones or rubber toys.

However, there are a many other causes that can be from either the gastrointestinal system itself or a disease somewhere else in the body.

What Else Could Be Causing Doggie To Throw Up?

Parasites - Young dogs and puppies that have large numbers of roundworms or hookworms may vomit. These puppies usually have as large potbelly.

Heat Stroke - Heat stroke is common in dogs if they are left out in the sun too long in the hot summer months.

Liver Disease - Your vet can check their blood enzymes. A high enzyme level could mean liver disease.

Motion Sickness - Many dogs get sick their first few times in a car, but after a while they usually get over it.

Pancreatitis - If their pancreas become inflammed that could cause frequent vomiting.

Middle and Inner Ear Disease - If they get an ear infection that gets to the inner ear, that can affect the organs of balance and can cause vomiting. Dogs will tilt or shake their heads or scratch their ear.

What Did They Throw Up?

- If what they threw up is high in mucus it indicates that the stomach or high intestine is inflamed.
- Undigested food can indicate food poisoning, anxiety, or simply over eating.
- Bile is often present when vomiting is caused by inflammatory bowel disease or pancreatitis.
- Flecks of bright blood could mean that they have an open sore in their stomach.
- If there is brown specs that look like coffee grounds, that could be dried blood which could mean the problem is farther down the intestine.
- Strong digestive odors suggests intestinal blockage.
- Garbage type things like paper wrappers, food containers, bits of aluminum foil, etc. then this is probably from eating crap that will be easy to manage.

Many objects that initially cause vomiting are eventually passed in the stool. I've seen a full size superball in the poop of a Lab. Throwing up can empty the stomach of things that could be the cause like spoiled food, leaves etc.

How To Treat Your Dogs Vomiting

Vomiting is a symptom, it is not a disease. So the cause will determine the treatment. If the dog is only vomiting occasionally, and otherwise normal then treatment is probably not necessary. Some dogs with sensitive stomachs will vomit once or twice a month regardless of any treatment, and if they are otherwise normal then treatment probably isn't necessary.

For acute vomiting cases, the first thing is to not feed them for 24 hrs. but keep plenty of water available. After that time, only give them small portions of a very bland food, such as chicken and boiled rice, for a few days. Instead of a big meal, give them little meals several times a day.

Dehydration is a concern for any animal that is vomiting. If your dog is contiually throwing up, and can't even hold down water, you should take them to the vet immediately. This could be a severe problem, like an obstruction, that could possibly need surgery. If they can hold down water and are only vomiting occasionally, then you can try the home remedies of smaller meals of the bland diet.

Though treating the symptom itself will often improve their comfort, if you believe the problem may be serious it is better to be safe than sorry and get your dog to your veteranarian for the correct diagnosis of the underlying cause.

Beware Excessive Protein Are Bad For Your Dog's Health

Just like any living organism in this world, dogs have certain food that they should avoid or not eat. Because your dog cannot communicate with you directly, it is the responsibility of the dog owner to take care of a dog's dietary needs.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

It is commonly known that chocolates are bad for a dog health, and you should not feed your dog any food that even contain chocolate. Not as commonly known are raisins and grapes, as both are toxic to dogs, too much of them in your dog's stomach might even cost him his life.

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

While many of such these ingredients come from homemade diets and snacks, this articles seek to inform you that commercial products may contain deadly and harmful ingredients too. They are namely excessive proteins and chemical preservatives that you might have unknowingly feed your dog constantly.

Dog food companies manufacture and formulated "performance food" in the market. These dog foods have high or rather excessive amount of protein and are designed specially for dogs or working dogs with a high level of activities. These food are consider to be containing excessive protein and would be unsuitable for smaller breeds or dogs that seldom exercise.

In cases whereby dogs get excessive protein in their body, thay are excreted in the dog's urine and it was research and believe that excessive protein content might also be one of the cause for damaging a dog's kidney. It is also known that damaged kidneys have difficulty processing protein.

It was also believe that excessive protein cause dogs to show more aggression because too much protein provide too much energy for dogs to handle effectively. Although it is not the food that makes the dog aggressive, it might be that the already aggressive nature dog is affected by a high protein diet and need space to release them. It is certain that some dogs that show certain type of aggressive behavior can be tame by feeding a lower protein content diet.

Chemical preservative is present in most commercial dog food for obvious reason - to preserve and increase the life span of the food. Preservatives in dog food can prevent mold related fungus that can cause severe health problems in dogs that eat them.

However, some of these chemical preservatives are detrimental to the dogs that consume them, even when in small amounts. Preservatives, such as Ethoxyquin, BHA and BHT have been investigated for their links to certain health disorders. Ethoxyquin, above all, shows indication to be cancer causing to dogs.

Dog owners out there, do understand that your dog's health is your sole responsibility. Do take extra care and time to research and feed the best dog food whenever possible.

Dog Digestion - Highlights to Chew On

It helps you to know about dog digestion differences. Though you are best buddies, there are important differences between you and your pooch. Your dog is not a miniature human with fur, though I see more and more dog owners acting like this actually is the case. To get your dog into the best shape he can possible be in, you need to understand his needs.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

Dogs may be a best man's friend. But here is the sad truth: humans can live up to 80 years and dogs barely 15! Humans have grown taller and live longer because of better health care, better hygiene and better eating patterns. Let's provide the same for our pet friends and improve their health and their lifespan, so they can bring us the morning newspaper for many years to come.

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

So that's one... lifespan differs. Let's quickly highlight the important dog digestion differences.

Taste and Smell Capacity of Dogs

To a dog the smell of the dog food is likely to be of more importance than the taste (if he had to choose, that is). A dog has 80-220 million smell-sensitive cells over an area about the size of a pocket handkerchief, whereas man only has 2-10 million which compares to the size of a post stamp. There are dogs that make a living out of this supreme skill. So, your dog has a better developed organ of smell than you. What else is new?

Dog Table Manners are Pretty Close to Awful, How About Yours?

Have you ever compared table manners between the two of you? For your partners' sake, I hope you won that contest. You chew your food well since you have the typical omnivore set of teeth for the job. It's not because of the amount of teeth that your dog doesn't chew properly. He scores 42 to your 32. It's because of the different qualities you both have. His teeth are designed for ripping, tearing, shearing and crushing meat and bone. Your canine companion simply cannot make the lateral movement required to grind.

Dogs are fast eaters. This typical gorging behavior we also see in wolves and wild dogs. Well, compare these numbers and you will have a better understanding: a dog has about 1700 taste buds compared to you having about 9000 of those! Perhaps this also explains why you can enjoy a nice dinner meal and spend about an hour eating one course, whereas your dog rather gobbles up his meal in as close to 5 minutes. Just be aware of this when you go and spoil him with your canine cuisine arts. It's not to be ungrateful: he just can't help himself!

Dog Digestion Enzymes Kick in Later

The digestion of starch starts already when you chew your food, because of the amylase enzyme present in your saliva. Your dog lacks this enzyme so carbohydrates rather stick to his teeth leading to tartar build up. However, an advantage could be that since starch is not broken down already in his mouth to sugars, his chances of developing caries are much smaller. But because of the tartar your dog should still brush his teeth (with your help of course) or chew on bones, dental sticks are large pieces of meat.

Another difference is the lysozyme in dog saliva, which destroys pathogenic bacteria. And this is not the only barrier he has! Continue reading to discover the other strategies.

Resistance to Bacteria & Less Need for Hygiene

The acid in your dog's stomach is much stronger than in yours (pH 1-2 against yours 4-5) and is very corrosive! This explains why he doesn't easily get sick after eating of the street. The acid kills most of the bacteria. This also explains why dogs can eat raw meat (salmonella!) and digest bones. They are simply designed to or have you ever come across a wolf carrying with him a Bunsen burner? The acid compensates for the lack of chewing and digestive enzymes in dog saliva. Also dog digestion enzymes in the stomach are different from yours to be able to function in this acid.

The canine digestive tract is much shorter (20-80 cm compared to 1.5 m for you) so the food stays for a much shorter time in your dog's system. Average passing time is only 24-48 hours, whereas it can take you up to three days. The faster dog digestion also contributes to his resistance to bacteria. You are much more vulnerable when eating of the street. Don't compete with your furry friend on this one.

Dog Nutritional Needs

You can receive nutritional value from proteins containing 8 essential amino acids as you can create the others ones (non-essential amino acids) yourself. But your dog needs more than that! Your dog needs protein that give all 10 essential amino acids from a dog's perspective.

Another big difference between the two of you when it comes to nutritional needs is your vitamin C need. Your dog has the upper hand in this as he is capable of synthesizing vitamin C in his liver.

Main Energy Source and Classification

You get most of your energy from carbohydrates, whereas your pooch lives mainly from protein and fats. Unlike a cat, which is a true carnivore, a dog also needs some carbohydrates. But very little amounts though, as dog bodies are not designed to process large quantities of carbs. Your body has a larger digestive tract and the right set of teeth to grind corn. Dog digestion design and energy metabolism differs. You are definitively an omnivore (and this applies also for vegetarians). Your dog is best classified as a semi-carnivore. Sure a dog can survive on a cheap grain based diet but to thrive he definitively needs his portion of meat.

Dog Digestion Time

A question often asked is how long does it take for a dog to digest his meal. Probably this information is wanted to determine when it's time to let the dog out for a sanitary walk or it's just curiosity. There is no simple answer though as passage time depends on several factors. Each dog is an individual.

In general, raw dog food takes about 4 to 6 hours to move through your dog. Dry dog food takes a bit longer to digest and spends about 10 to 12 hours inside your dog.

There are many more differences of course and I cannot cover all of those here. The focus remains on the nutrient requirements of your dog, dog digestion related differences and your understanding of his needs. Though I may a sequel in the future.

Where to search Her Sexually Sensitive Points

Most men remain entertaining as to what turns a woman on. We all know which female body parts men most frequently like to witness during lovemaking. Do you know she has delight sensors all over her body beyond the usual areas (vagina, breasts and butt)? Getting her into the mood may be as easy as stimulating some of these often-neglected delight points. Incorporating the act of touching these places into foreplay and sex, or just giving her some delight after a hard day, will certainly "add sparks" to your relationship.

dog food for sensitive stomachs

Let's start exploring her from top to bottom:

Sensitive Stomachs

(1) Hair
Women take a lot of pride in their hair. They like men to use their hands to stroke their hair. Let your fingers massage circles from her temples to the back of her neck.

(2) Lips
If you know how to manipulate her lips just through kissing, licking, sucking and biting, it is very inherent that a kiss will lead to a lot more than that. Use your lips, tongue and your teeth to play with her top and lowest lip and kiss her with absolute passion.

(3) Ears
Many women enjoy having their ears licked, sucked or kissed. Touching, kissing and even lightly biting the ear lobes of your woman will make her feel special.

(4) Back of her neck
Once you can get to this area, place a few light kisses there. There is also a good place to start giving her some sensual massage that she can find it hard to resist.

(5) Collar bone
When you begin to undress your woman, you should take the time to kiss and lick her collar bone. The think for this is because it sends the feel good hormones to her brain.

(6) Wrists
This may comes as a surprise to most guys but women love having their wrists nuzzled and nibbled by their lovers.

(7) Palms of her hands
Tracing your finger along her palm will give her some delightful shivers. This is a good way to start stimulating her and gradually bring her into the mood when out on the street.

(8) Breasts
The breasts are very sexually sensitive such that polite fondling, squeezing, caressing, licking and sucking of the nipples can be extremely arousing. Depending on how sensitive the woman is, after stroking the nipples for a while, you can see them get hardened and erected just like penis.

(9) Pelvis
Kissing and licking around her pelvis will excite her until she begs for more.

(10)Buttocks
Lots of women like it when you play around with their behinds. A lot of women like mild spanking and squeezing of their buttocks. But some women like having their butts lick and suck.

(11)Behind her knees
Most men don't know that this area is quite sensitive. gradually caressing the back of the knee under her skirts while both of you are in a collective place will make her ready for operation once you reach home.

(12)Inner thighs
If you want to tease your girl before having sex, just focus on kissing and rubbing her inner thighs will turn her on.

(13)Feet
Many women enjoy having their feet touched, massaged and some even enjoy having them licked and sucked. Women enjoy it when their men spend time caressing their soles, toes and ankles. Because these zones can be quite ticklish, the sensation of ticklishness can be quite pleasant for her.

(14)Vagina/Clitoris
The clitoris (which is a small protrusion just above the occasion of the vagina) can be stimulated by using the tongue or finger. When a woman is aroused, blood will flow to the clitoris, production the protrusion more pronounced. In the vagina, there is the so-called G-spot that can produce intense sexual feelings when stimulated. It is placed about 2 inches inside the vagina on the topside (near to the underside of her stomach).

These are the delight points on a woman's body that can turn her on. Not every woman is the same. Some women have some preference areas that they like to be stimulated while others have some no-go areas. As you explore, you will learn which places your touch has the best consequent on and which you should avoid.

The significant thing to remember is when it comes to sex, every woman is different. You can do all right. You can make all the right moves with your fingers, lips and tongue and still not able to drive her crazy.

There are 2 things you should take note:

(1) Pay attention
When you try to find out about her delight points that are applicable to her, you shouldn't just do it mechanically. You need to listen to changes in her breathing, the way her skin softens and her muscles tighten, the way her blood flushes under her skin in her face and breasts, the way she moans.

(2) Stay connected
She needs to feel related in order to feel relaxed with you. Look up at her and make eye taste once in a while. Stop and tell her how much you are enjoying it or how hot you think it is. Reach up and stroke the side of her face and hair. Take her hands and give them a polite squeeze. You don't have to do all these things and you don't have to do them all the time. Just give her a few signs every few minutes and watch what happen immediately afterwards. First, her body will relax into what you are doing and then very swiftly she will have a much more intense orgasm.

21st Century Probiotic Restores Digestive Balance Quickly and Safely For Cats and Dogs

Eighty percent of your pets' immune system is located in their digestive tract (gut), which is home to some one hundred trillion bacteria, with some 500 different species. Approximately 85% of the total bacteria are called 'good'; the other 15% 'bad'. This balance is essential to maintain good health.

The bad bacteria break the food down, making it easier for the 'good' bacteria to extract any nutritional value; they also aid in converting the digested food into fecal matter. The 'good' bacterium extracts any nutrients and moves them to the intestinal wall where they are absorbed into your pets' body. It is important to know that the life of 'good' bacteria is rather short. Unless you replace them on a regular basis, the balance will be tilted, favoring of the 'bad' bacteria. How important is this balance?

Dog Food For Sensitive Stomachs

According to The Royal Society of Medicine of Great Britain, "Fully 90% of all chronic disease is caused by an unhealthy intestinal system!"

2+2=?

If you can solve a simple word problem, you can save yourself a lot of money on expensive visits to the vet, plus, have a healthier and happier pet.

Since 80% of your pet's total immune system is located in their digestive system, and an unhealthy digestive system causes 90% of all chronic disease, what can you do for your pet to minimize their risk? Answer: Administer "Good' bacteria on a regular basis!

One of the jobs of good bacteria is to control the growth of bad bacteria by competing for nutrition and attachment sites in your pets' colon. Unfortunately, it does not take much of an imbalance for the bad bacteria to get the upper hand, especially when good bacteria are not being replenished regularly.

The longer the 'bad' bacteria have the upper hand, the greater the strain on your pets' immune system, and therefore, the greater the risk of a simple digestive disorder turning into a disease.

Digestion Is Time Sensitive

If the time between eating and elimination is either too fast, or too slow, your pet will develop health issues. The more nutritious the food, the easier it is to break it down, extract the nutrients, and move it along in a timely manner for elimination.

Early warning signs of a compromised digestive system includes frequent loss of appetite, foul smelling gas, loose stools, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation. These disorders are so common that people tend to ignore them- a choice that often has dire consequences.

When digestion is too slow, the risk of becoming a breeding ground for viruses and pathogens increases significantly. Common health issues that result from digestion that is too slow includes runny eyes, dry itchy skin, frequent diarrhea and vomiting, IBS, IBD and constipation.

Your Pet's Life Line

The importance of making sure your pets' digestive system remains healthy cannot be stressed enough.

The intestinal wall is your pets' lifeline. This is where the blood picks up the nutrients to feed every cell, tissue, organ and immune system in your pets' body. It is also where waste and dead cells are taken for removal. When your pets' intestinal system is imbalanced over a period of time, their intestinal wall comes to their defense, swelling to prevent pathogens from invading the body. Unfortunately, the swelling also prevents waste products, and dead cells from being eliminated via the colon.

Treating the Cause Instead of the Effect

It is common knowledge that most veterinarians administer antibiotics and steroids in their attempt to resolve digestive distress. This is a case where the so-called "remedy" needs a remedy!

Bacterium responds to antibiotics by developing into ever more resistant strains, calling into question the benefit of antibiotics. Thankfully, some veterinarians are becoming more aware of natural alternatives like probiotics.

Yogurt is a probiotic that is heavily promoted for its ability to restore "good bacteria" in the gut. If only!

Yogurt is cultured from commercial dairy cows. These cows spend a good portion of their lives in squalid living conditions, eating highly questionable foods. Antibiotics and bovine growth hormones are commonly used. On top of these concerns, the majority of pets are "lacto-intolerant".

Even if your pet is not lacto-intolerant, by the time you purchase dairy-based probiotics, most of the active strains are dead and what does survive is killed by your pet's powerful stomach acids. OK, so if not yogurt, what then?

SBOs The 21st Century Probiotic

Some thirty years ago, laboratory research scientists began investigating why animals eat dirt and grass. It was only when they examined "organic" soils and grasses that they found the answer. Unlike today's chemically treated soils and grasses, organic soil is teeming with soil-based organisms (SBOs) that live right around the grass roots. This (SBOs) is what your pet is after when you see them pulling at the grass!

Here is a little known secret: No matter how much money you spend on better food and supplements, to improve your pets' health, unless you also replenish their daily requirements for SBOs, your efforts will largely be in vain!

The good news is that most animal disease is entirely reversible! The steps to make sure your pets get healthy and stay healthy, are a lot less costly than vet visits and medications!

Pores run straight through the dentin from the pulp to the outer surface. Cells inside the pores are responsible for sensing cold. Enamel covers the part of the tooth that is usually visible, the crown. Wholesome enamel insulates the rest of the tooth from mild sensations of heat, cold, sweet and sour.

Most population with sensitive teeth will believe that they have a cavity. That is possible. Small to moderate cavities will cause teeth to be sensitive to cold and to sweet flavors. The treatment is to see a dentist to treat small decay with a filling or larger decay with root canal treatment and a crown or extraction.

Gum stepping back will cause mild to moderate sensitivity. Loss of gum tissue occurs as a effect of brushing too hard, gum disease or age. The simplest treatment for mild sensitivity due to a small estimate of gum loss is using a desensitizing toothpaste. Quarterly fluoride applications will both progress and desensitize teeth. Look for a high attention fluoride paste. Use this kind of toothpaste in place of your usual toothpaste. Use desensitizing toothpaste for about a month, then once or twice a week to contend the effect. High-concentration fluoride paste may replace Quarterly toothpaste once or twice a day.

Dentists literal, more severe gum loss with surgery. There are many techniques to move gum tissue to cover exposed tooth root surface. This is the most natural and long persisting treatment for gum loss.

Loss of enamel is an additional one base cause of sensitivity. Eating causes slow enamel loss. Don't worry. Under general circumstances there is adequate enamel to last for a lifetime. Unfortunately, some population grind their teeth excessively. Enamel will not stand up to this for long. The easy solution is to wear a mouth guard to preclude the teeth from contacting each other. More serious milling will need attention from a dentist with contact in restoring the way teeth should bite together.

Another base cause for loss of enamel is tooth brushing. Ok, tooth brushing is an sufficient way to preclude gum disease and tooth decay. Regrettably, many brush too hard or use a hard toothbrush. When brushing, be standard but be gentle.

Similarly, Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease or Gerd causes enamel loss. Gerd occurs when the acidic contents of the stomach usually voyage up the esophagus as far as the mouth. Acid from eating large quantities of lemons and limes or drinking soda will do the same. Acid softens and dissolves enamel causing sensitivity and decay.

Dentists treat loss of enamel using bonding techniques (applying plastic and glass material using special adhesives) or by completely surface and rebuilding the teeth with crowns.

If you have sensitive teeth, speak with your dentist. The dentist will diagnose the cause of the sensitivity and advise uncostly treatments.

As a dog owner, we all want what's best for our dog. With the newest reports about the proper diet for your dog, they should have carbohydrates, vegtables, etc., more and more dog owners are giving their dog table scraps without realizing that there are certain foods a dog should never have. Before you put your left-overs in your dog's bowl be sure to read the top ten foods they shouldn't eat.

1. Chocolate - To dogs, chocolate acts as a stimulant, making your dog's heartbeat accelerate or beat irregularly, leading to seizures and even cardiac arrest. To compound things further, it also acts as a severe diuretic, causing frequent urination, vomiting, and/or diarrhea. If you even suspect your dog has consumed chocolate, take him to an animal hospital immediately.

2. Grapes and Raisins - Grapes and raisins create havoc with your dog's kidneys and digestive system. What's worse is that the amount of grapes needed to cause problems can vary greatly among individual dogs. Symptoms include frequent urination, vomiting, and diarrhea.

3. Onions - Onions cause the breakdown of a dog's red blood cells, which deprives his cells of much-needed oxygen. If you're in the habit of feeding your dog table scraps, make sure the dish was not prepared with onions, as the effects can be cumulative over a period of time. Symptoms can vary greatly, ranging from vomiting and diarrhea to loss of appetite, fever, or exhaustion.

4. Macadamia Nuts - While the exact chemical compound is still unknown, even a small amount of macadamia nuts can cause fever, irregular heartbeat, seizures, or mild paralysis.

5. Alcoholic Beverages - Dogs' physiologies are not equipped to handle alcohol consumption. They are extremely susceptible to alcohol poisoning, and even small amounts can lead to digestive problems or even death.

6. Bread Dough - Because it is soft, dogs will often swallow the dough without chewing it. When the dough hits your dog's stomach, his body heat will cause the dough to rise inside his stomach. This rising action can cause bloating or vomiting. To compound things further, the rising action creates alcohol as a by-product, and your dog may experience the symptoms listed in the previous paragraph.

7. Caffeinated Beverages - Similar to the effects of chocolate, caffeine is a stimulant and can negatively impact your dog's heart rate, causing seizures or heart attacks.

8. Avocadoes- Avocadoes are toxic to many animals. The offensive chemical damages heart, lung, and other essential tissues. Be aware since guacamole's main ingredient is avocado, that you keep any such dips well out of your dog's reach.

9. Pitted Fruits - (Peaches, Pears, Cherries, and Apricots) The pits of these fruits contain small doses of cyanide, which can be fatal to smaller dogs. Also, if the pit is swallowed whole, it may become lodged in the intestinal tract, where the blockage will have to be surgically removed.

10. Raw Fish - Raw fish, especially salmon, can contain parasites, usually fluke larvae. The dog consumes the fish, and the larvae hatch in your dog's digestive tract, attaching themselves to his intestinal walls. Symptoms can take up to a week to exhibit and usually mimic other canine diseases, such as distemper or parvovirus. The hazard here is misdiagnosis by the veterinarian, leading to an improper or ineffective treatment. If you choose to feed your dog fish, be sure to cook it thoroughly to kill any bad critters that could be hiding inside.

This is of vital information for your dog care. If you want your dog to have the proper diet, take a small amount of what your making before you add the onions and the extra spices and make him up his own little plate and add it with his dog food.

Remember a good dog is a happy and healthy dog.
