Dealing With Hypersensitivity - The 'Secret' to Not Suffering From Other People's Feelings

"Knowing your own darkness is the best method for dealing with the darknesses of other people." Carl Jung

Over the years, as I have been getting to grips with my own hypersensitive nature, I find more and more high sensitive persons seeing their way to my practice.

Sensitive Stomachs

While every client is unique, and every story is different, there are issues in the lives of hypersensitive citizen (Hsp's) that recur time and time again in my practice. If you feel you may be hypersensitive yourself, you may advantage from some of the things I have discovered when working with hypersensitivity - my clients' and my own!

Yes, it is inherent to sense other people's feelings - as a Hsp, it is very likely you are subconsciously 'tuning in' to them all the time.

As Hsp children, we are not always born to parents who know how to deal with this. They may be Hsp themselves, but having had to repress their own sensitivity, especially their 'undesirable' feelings, they could not help you deal with it.

When sensitive children are born to troubled parents (and they often are, more about this in a next article), they often start 'tuning in' to their parents' feelings from birth, subconsciously trying to alleviate their parents' bad feelings - so their parents will be happy. As children, we don't realize this is not how it works. We want our parents to be at peace so we can be at peace. We want our parents to be happy so we can be happy.

Worse, when sensitive children are born into families where there is violence or emotional abuse, they will often try to act as 'containers' for the bad feelings they sense in the atmosphere.

Whilst doing this, they will be constantly using their 'psychic antennae' to assess whether they are safe - a form of hyperalertness you also see in those who suffer from Ptsd.

Because hypersensivites can sense danger arrival (anger, violence, and so forth) they will use these 'psychic antennae' to survive, which is a good thing at the time - but as they grow up, start their own families and the danger has gone, they do not turn off these psychic antennae. They are still surviving instead of living.

So, as you have grown up as a hypersensitive child, you may identify one or more of these 'symptoms':

You feel responsible for other people's happiness, especially your loved ones' You suffer from inexplicable fatigue, especially after being in the company of other people When your friends or relatives feel bad, you will spend hours talking on the phone with them, doing microscopic favors for them, anything to make them feel better, even if it tires and stresses you out You not only feel but take on board other people's feelings and bodily symptoms like stomach aches, headaches, stiff neck and shoulders, etc.

In the years I have been practicing past-life therapy and inner child work, I have found there is one foremost aspect of hypersensitivity, of being able to feel others' emotions, that is almost never explained to us as we grow up. It is so straightforward it is mind-boggling. When I tell my clients this, I can see them sit back and go: 'Oh. Well. No-one ever told me that.' And then the relief sets in.

Do you want to know the inexpressive to dealing with hypersensitivity? It is very simple. And it is not a secret. Here it is:

Just because you are able to sense other people's feelings, doesn't mean you are responsible for those feelings.

Told you it was simple?

Now, please read it again. Let it sink in.

When you find yourself sensing other people's feelings, worrying about them, sensing them as bodily symptoms, remind yourself: just because I can feel them doesn't mean I have to deal with them. Take a breath, slowly release the other's feelings with your breath, and let them flow into the earth, of release them in the hands of the other person's guardian angel. Just don't hang on to them.

You don't have to solve other people's problems. In fact, it's studying to deal with these problems that helps them grow as human beings - taking people's problems away from them would be arrogant indeed!

Now, knowing this may not be the cure-all to the problems with hypersensitivity - especially when your inner child has come to be dependant on solving other people's crises for their sense of protection or self-worth.

If this is the case and you still find it difficult not to make yourself responsible for other people's feelings, you may want to read my next article: curative your Inner Child!

Are You Suffering From LaryngoPharyngeal Reflux Or Lpr?

Laryngopharyngeal Reflux or Lpr is a small known but base disorder that can cause major problems if left untreated. Lpr is caused by the backflow of stomach acids and food particles up through the esophagus all the way to the voice box or larynx/pharynx. Lpr may not be linked with eating and can occur at any time of day or night. If you suffer from acid reflux heartburn it does not mean that you are subject to Lpr. The inequity being the extent of the reflux travels in the esophagus. Acid reflux heartburn in most cases only affects the lower part of the esophagus.

It is an animated fact that many population who do suffer from Laryngopharyngeal Reflux may not even suffer from the effects of heartburn at all. The hypothesize for this is that the refluxed material does not stay in the esophagus long adequate to cause the pain and symptoms of first-rate acid reflux. A major part of the acid reflux ends up in the throat where due to its sensitive nature broad damage can occur.

The symptoms of Lpr contain persisting hoarseness, throat clearing and coughing. Many population also enumerate the feeling of a constant lump or obstruction in their throat. In addition you may also have the first-rate symptoms of acid reflux heartburn as well. Someone else symptom comes in the form of persisting nasal drainage into the throat which causes a cough or constant throat clearing. If you have these symptoms then you should feel an Ent (Ear, Nose and Throat) physician also called an Otolaryngologist. Ignoring these symptoms especially if you are a smoker can lead to a serious healing condition.

The physician will conduct an exam and may require some supplementary tests to decide if you for real have Lpr. The two most base tests used to diagnose Lpr contain a Barium swallow and a 24 hour esophageal Ph test. You may find that your Ent will schedule you for both tests since the effect provide separate information. The Barium swallow is commonly done as an patient procedure at the local hospital. Basically you will be required to swallow a chalky clarification while standing in front of an x-ray machine. This test will tell the physician how you are swallowing and if there is any abnormality in throat area.

The second test is called a Ph-metry test and it basically will monitor the Ph levels in your esophagus over a 24 hour period. The test is begun in whether the doctor's office or the local hospital. Many population find the testing procedure whether annoying or uncomfortable but it is primary for a permissible determination of Lpr. The test is begun by inserting a small soft inflatable tube into your nose and down in to the esophagus. Once inserted it is attached to a belt held computer that is worn colse to your waist. You will be required to wear these devices for a 24 hour period.

Once the physician has reviewed the data and made his or her determination you will be given a number of medicine options. In approximately all case it will require a lifestyle changes in order to be effective. This especially true if you are a smoker persisting to smoke while suffering from laryngopharyngeal reflux disorder can in many cases lead to serious consequences together with cancer of the throat. Many population will be asked to change their diet and add exercise to their daily routine. Exact medications may be prescribed to temporarily sell out stomach acid until the lifestyle changes are completed. In rare cases surgery to repair the lower sphincter muscle or Les may be primary to preclude acid reflux heartburn and Lpr.

As stated before ignoring Lpr can lead to serious problems. These contain noisy breathing, choking episodes, breathing problems like asthma or bronchitis as well as cancer of the esophagus, voice box and throat.
